My
Thoughts
This
second installment in Wilson’s Vampire Romances series tells the story of Aiden
and Sam. This novel could be read out of
order, however, The Merzetti Effect (Book #1) does most of the story world
building for the series so I recommend reading that one first.
Nightfall
may not be as action packed as The Merzetti Effect, however it is first-rate in
its own merit. It’s a very well written Paranormal
Romance that delivers believable characters, evokes emotion and provides a well-planned
backstory. It’s a little on the lighter
side of PNR, however it still packs a punch with its steamy passion and the
struggles these two lovers have to find a common ground in their relationship.
Hired by
Delano Bowen, who we met in The Merzetti Effect, Aiden is one of many vampires
who hunt and kill rogue vampires. Sam is
a very successful photographer who is psychically drawn to violent
phenomena. Normally the violence is
weather-related; however recently, she is drawn to violence in the form of
vampire attacks.
Thinking
her latest vision is sending her to another violent natural occurrence, Sam
unwittingly shows up at the site of a vampire attack. Here she meets Aiden who quickly realizes she
has a psychic gift that can aid in his mission and he proceeds to convince her
to help. They work together as a team to find as many rogue vampires they can
and save many victims from death.
Their
working relationship quickly escalates to a game of seduction. Aiden is quite a playboy that never allows
himself to have a serious relationship.
Sam is very independent and focused on her career and not her love
life. They are both instantly attracted
to each other; however, Sam knows Aiden’s type and tries her best to avoid his advances. After facing life and death situations, they
discover more about each other (and themselves) and their relationship grows
deeper.
Despite
all the hunter’s efforts, the threat of rogue vampires is growing to new levels. The rogues are starting to organize and are
working together in packs instead of on their own. I’m interested to see how this will be
developed in the series.
Bottom
Line
I enjoyed this novel as a follow up to The Merzetti Effect and
found the characters to be well developed and the story well delivered. The idea of a larger rogue threat is interesting
and I am definitely looking forward to reading more from the Vampire Romances
series.
